We made it through the first full week of school! It was great to see the smiles on the teachers’ and students’ faces when they started connecting again. We heard many stories from students and staff alike about how great it was to see each other and share experiences. Hopefully, your student is feeling connected and comfortable with their class group, their technology, and the courses they will be taking.
Next week, the Junior/Senior high school students will be starting their electives and other courses such as PE, FFA, and Leadership. They should check their email on Monday morning to find out when and how to log in to their new class. Keeping track of all the great stuff going on can be a challenge, so we encourage students to develop a daily schedule and utilize a calendar to make sure they stay on track. (Some elective or activity groups meet daily, while others might be weekly.) Classes such as PE and Medical Terminology are fully independent and can be scheduled whenever the student prefers, but others have specific live meeting times at 11am or 12pm. It might seem crazy at first, but most students will settle in within a few days. If your student is having trouble, please encourage them to attend virtual office hours with their teachers to help them develop a daily schedule.
If you are having technology problems, please reach out to us to help. On the district website, click on the heading at the top for “Students and Families”, and there is a link to a Technology Support Request form that you can get use to get help. Another option is to email us directly at email@example.com. If you need other supports, that don’t necessarily fall under “technology”, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure to include your contact information so we can get back to you.
School on Friday- What??? Since the fire evacuations delayed the start of the school year, we had to add a few days to the calendar to meet state requirements. Four of these days take place in the first trimester before Winter Break. Please make sure you add October 23, October 30, November 20, and December 4 to your calendar as school days. (Or check out the new printable calendar on the website.) We are taking attendance every day for our students, so starting next week, parents will be getting phone calls home when students are not attending all of their classes.
Wondering what your student is working on in their classes? Check out the Schoology login letter sent home with computers to find your parent code. Then follow the instructions to get logged in. If you need more help, there is a video and instructions just for parents under the parent resources section of our website. Each teacher has a schedule in their Schoology classroom for when the students will be “live” and when they will be working asynchronously. We will most likely be continuing in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) for a while, but even when we return, we will still be using the Schoology system for students, so it is worth the time to check it out.
The district is working diligently to get ready for possible Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) for select groups of students. This will most likely start with our Kindergarten students, and would work it’s way up by grade level. The current metrics for rates of infection are not low enough to open fully for a while. The metrics measurements tool is linked on the first page of our website under “Follow the Metrics”, if you want to take a look.
If you still have questions, give us a call. The office is open on school days. (541-933-2512) Let’s work together to help our students make the most of their school experience this year. Stay Mustang Strong. We’ve got this!
