Students, Staff and Community - Dedicated to Excellence

Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) Classes Are Being Taught At Marcola School District

This past summer, students, staff and community united together to renovate a library and 2 classrooms into STEM and Construction/Engineering spaces. Funding from our partner Weyerhaeuser (THANK YOU!) provided the Marcola School District over $40,000 in donations to support our plans for a remodel of 4 classroom spaces.

Construction, Agriculture And Robotics Programs

The spaces were designed to accommodate a STEM program, Construction/Engineering program, Robotics program and our Agriculture/FFA program. Students are 100% engaged when they are challenged to learn science, math, engineering, technology, technical reading, technical writing and even the arts/design in their new learning spaces.

Mohawk Middle/High School and Marcola Elementary School now have 15 competitive robotics teams – 4 middle school teams are heading to nationals in Iowa April 3-5th. Last year Mohawk High School students placed in the top 5 at the state robotics completion – this year we expect no less. In addition, Mohawk High School is starting one of the first Computer Science Career Tech programs in Lane County to prepare high school graduates for entry level jobs in the tech industry.

Mohawk’s Construction program has partnered with the construction industry to help students certify their first year in a construction apprenticeship. Students in the construction program can earn both a math and a career tech credit once they demonstrate proficiency on the construction math standards (which are rigorous) and the construction CTE standards. In addition we have had representatives from the Plumbing, HVAC, and Electricians Trades visit our campus and recruit students who are interested in a wide variety of CTE careers.

Marcola School District Is Big In So Many Ways

The Marcola School District may be small, but we are big in so many ways. The staff and community has never allowed finances to be a barrier to providing the programs our students need to be career and college ready. People in Marcola believe their most important resource is youth – they (the community) will always find a way to invest in their youth. Soon, the Marcola community will be opening a brand new elementary school built next to the Mohawk Middle/Senior High School – another example of our community investing in its youth and the future of Oregon.
