This morning (before school started), a cougar was spotted near the post office.
We have reviewed our safety procedures in case there is a daytime sighting near the school. In addition, we have contacted the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) about this report. ODFW encourages people who see a cougar to contact the Oregon State Police at 541-726-2536.
Your child’s safety and well-being is of the utmost concern to our staff. We kept the students in before school, gave them the cougar safety talk and have extra supervision at recess. There is no eminent danger but we are taking extra precautions. Enclosed is an informational flyer produced by ODFW. One particular area of concern includes students that come by the school after hours, especially in the evening.
Please read the handout as avoiding evening hours is mentioned. Our goal is to provide the best information available to you. We encourage you to share the information in this handout with your child. Please feel free to contact our staff should you have any additional questions or concerns.
