Help Three Hopeful Middle School Robotics Teams Travel To The VEX Robotics National Level Competition In April!
Mohawk Jr / Sr High is a tiny rural school located just outside Springfield, Oregon. We have a brand new competitive robotics program that is only in its second year, but has shown real promise as a solid program for the future!
Three Teams Qualified For Nationals!
Three of my middle school VEX IQ robotics teams recently qualified to compete at the national level. One of the teams is an all female team, one team is an all male team, and one is a mixed gender team. Competing in VEX robotics is not easy – not only must the students design, engineer, and program a competitive robot that can complete a set task, they must have an autonomous program, maintain an engineering notebook, complete and present a STEM research project, and participate in formal interviews with judges regarding their design and engineering process. These teams have been working together since September, and have had some phenomenal success, as well as some really tough times.
Three teams have risen to the top, and recently qualified to compete at VEX Robotics national level competition on April 4 and 5 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We would really love to go!
Not only would this be a fantastic competitive event, but it would allow a group of 18 students in grades 6-8 to have an opportunity to travel for an academic event! Many of the students have never been outside of Oregon, flown on an airplane, or been lucky enough to be a part of a competitive team. A few of the students have never even left the immediate area. Many of these students come from from families with very limited income, and would not otherwise be able to participate.
Help Us Reach Our Goal
We are seeking a total of $6,000.00 to pay for this event. Our students will be participating in fundraising activities and work, but our needs are greater than the students can raise through our activities. The funding will cover plane fare, entry fees, and hotel costs, as well as helping with food costs for students who are not able to afford money for meals.
We need to book our tickets and hotel very soon, in order to get the best prices available. We have a goal of having the trip paid for by the end of February.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this, and for any support you are able to provide! You are making a difference in the educational experiences of some bright and talented young men and women!
Help spread the word, many thanks!!
