The Mohawk Mascot has been an item of discussion for the last 5 years. At a community meeting on Monday, November 28th at Mohawk High School, people came together to discuss problems associated with the existing mascot (Indian) and solutions for changing the mascot.  It’s fair to say, everyone left the meeting understanding that a change needs to take place and it needs to happen soon.

Mohawk High School Students Combine Instruction with Real World Applications

Students at Mohawk Middle and Senior High Schools are thriving in the construction math class taught by Mr. Andy Rice. Construction Math combines fun, industry-required math lessons with supplemental academic and career guidance.  They are also learning and using Science, Technology, Engineering and Math as a tool to solve problems and create solutions to problems. Our new STEM teacher, Mr. Dustin DeGeorge has teamed up with Mr. Rice to provide students with a very interactive, hands on curriculum that requires deep thinking skills, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to find solutions.

Cougar Sighting Bulletin

Cougar Sighting Bulletin

This morning (before school started), a cougar was spotted near the post office. We have reviewed our safety procedures in case there is a daytime sighting near the school. In addition, we have contacted the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) about this report. ODFW encourages people who see a cougar to contact the Oregon State Police at 541-726-2536. There is no eminent danger but we are taking extra precautions.
