Marcola School District’s Renee Klein named Lane’s 2020 Regional Teacher of the Year!

Renee Klein Named Lane’s Regional Teacher of the Year
Candidate for 2020 Oregon Teacher of the Year

May 16, 2019

Marcola School District’s Renee Klein was named Lane’s 2020 Regional Teacher of the Year! Ms. Klein wins a $500 cash prize and is in the running for Oregon’s 2020 Teacher of the Year – to be announced in September.

Ms. Klein is an inspiration to her peers, students and community members as an excellent educator and human being who always goes the extra mile to help all students achieve success.  Her growth mindset inspires students and her peers to move forward with innovations in education that promote the concept of “All students learning well, without the loss of enthusiasm for learning.”  She is one of the finest teachers I’ve had the pleasure to work with in my 38 years of experience as an educator. (Bill Watkins – Superintendent, Marcola School District)

Regional Teachers of the Year are nominated by students, colleagues, administrators, friends or family members to apply for the award, and selected by a diverse panel of regional representatives. In September 2019 one of the Regional Teachers of the Year will be named the 2020 Oregon Teacher of the Year.

Thanks to the Oregon Department of Education’s partnership with the Oregon Lottery, the 2020 Oregon Teacher of the Year receives a $5,000 cash prize (with a matching $5,000 going to their school!) and serves as a spokesperson and representative for all Oregon teachers.

Parent/Student Career Technical Education (CTE) Survey

Our students in Lane County have many opportunities ahead of them to fulfill their potential, and our teachers and schools play a vital role in helping that happen. One area that holds considerable promise for our community is that of Career Technical Education (CTE). CTE  is evolving rapidly on a national level to better prepare students for acquiring the technical skills and academic knowledge needed for success in highly skilled 21st century careers.   We are actively exploring innovative ways to increase the collaboration between our schools and industry that will help deliver high quality education to our students in areas that are both exciting and have promising personal growth potential.

Your participation in this survey is a critical piece of this process to be sure that we include your feedback and ideas, and we would like to hear from you by Friday, April 19th.  The link to the survey is below and the estimated completion time is approximately 5 minutes. We will be holding a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card from all those who complete the survey and include their contact information at the end.

Thank you for your help and we look forward to sharing updates with you as our plans develop in the near future.
