January 2023 ESPY Award Winners

Marcola School District Board Members want to Recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.

ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students who are doing well academically and have an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers.  They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refuse to accept anyone who bullies.

The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each Board Meeting each month.  Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.

January 2023  ESPY Winners are;

Avery Wilkins - 5th grade nominated by Alan Shafer

“Avery comes to school everyday with a smile on her face ready to learn. Avery is always one of the first to make sure she has her materials ready and at her desk.

Avery is a model mustang, who comes to school everyday with a positive and kind attitude. Avery has had zero behavior incidents throughout the school year which is attributed to her positive and kind behavior and the way she treats and communicates with her peers and adults.

Avery is an exceptional student who strives to learn and improve herself. She works hard to complete the assigned tasks and she is always willing to participate in group discussions and class activities.

Again Avery is an exceptional student who has demonstrated being a model mustang all year."

Raygan is organized and manages her time wisely. She volunteers to read aloud and is an active participant in class discussions.

Raygan displays leaderships skills both in the classroom and on the court. She manages to do well in her classes while excelling in multiple sports. She is a positive role model for others, showing kindness to others, providing words of encouragement, helping others to be confident in themselves and having a positive outlook on life. On the basketball team, she is a leader, making sure there is harmony among all teammates.”

Quentin Makinson - 11th grade nominated by MHS Staff

"Quentin is one of the most kind and respectful students at Mohawk High School. Whether he is dealing with adults, peers, or assisting younger students, he always makes a positive impression. He is always on time, with a great attitude, and looking to improve himself, and prepare for his future.

Quentin is a positive role model for the younger students that he consistently works with. Beyond the skills he demonstrates with specialty equipment, he is also able to share this knowledge with middle school students to make sure that Mohawk has capable students in the future. Quentin always strives to do his best, and take on challenges to better prepare himself for the future.

Quentin is also a key member of Mohawk student leadership. His role in promoting activities has led to greater participation, and events that are more enjoyable for students. Quentin is also an active helper with FFA, where he redesigned the website, and is always assisting Ms. Fisher.

Quentin is a stellar member of the Mohawk community, and an example for all students. We feel fortunate to have him as a member of our student body, and look forward to all the great things he will continue to do in the future."

These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
