February 2024 ESPY WINNERS

Marcola School District Board Members want to Recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.

ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers.  They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.

The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting.  Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.

February 2024 ESPY Winners are;

Arianna Meray - 2nd grade nominated by Selene Konyn

"Arianna comes to school every day with an amazing, positive attitude. She is always prepared to learn and applies herself to everything we do, often going above and beyond what is asked of her.

Arianna takes charge in her learning. She is constantly asking clarifying and extending questions. Ari is an academic and behavioral role model. She follows directions the first time asked, day in and day out. She is respectful to all of her peers and adults.

I can't wait to see what the future holds for Miss Arianna.”

Arthur Ericson - 6th grade nominated by MMS Staff

“Even though Arthur is only in 6th grade, his maturity is remarkable. He comes to our classes prepared and ready to learn. He always takes such good care of our learning environments, often staying after class to straighten up the room and push in chairs.

Arthur is a stellar example of courteousness to students and teachers. He always takes the time to ask teachers about their weekend and how their day is going. Students know they can count on Arthur to be kind and helpful. Throughout the school year, when students leave their belongings in class, Arthur typically identifies who the items belong to and even takes it to them.

Arthur does well in his classes and can always be counted on to help a student if they are confused. In a large class of 6th graders, Arthur stays on task and works diligently on his assignments every day.

Arthur has many academic strengths, but he also excels on two basketball teams. Arthur is a fantastic team player.”

Eddie Yi - 9th grade nominated by MHS Staff

“Eddie Yi is an outstanding member of the Mohawk Community, and has been selected as the ESPY winner for February. Eddi excels in the classroom and brings the same strong work ethic to his extracurricular activities, making him a well rounded student and leader in our community.

Eddie has shown that he has the work ethic to take and show success in challenging classes. Teachers know they can count on him to be prepared and eager to learn.

Eddie has also committed himself to being involved in activities outside of the school day and showing the same level of success in FFA and athletics. Again, it is his work ethic and focus on what is important to his future that sets him apart from his peers.

Eddie is kind and respectful to staff and peers alike, making him a pleasure to be around and a student his peers trust to treat others with respect.

We feel fortunate to have Eddie at Mohawk High School and look forward to his many contributions to our school community in the future.”

These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
