Marcola School District Board Members want to recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.
ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers. They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.
The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting. Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.
April 2025 ESPY Winners are
Mason Davey - 3rd grade nominated by Jaime Morneau
Mason is a model in 3rd grade. He makes a conscious effort to be respectful and kind to his peers and the adults he works with. He is always eager to participate and actively tries everything we work on. One of Mason’s best qualities is that he works hard to make the right choices despite what everyone else is doing and even when they might be the hard choices. I am so proud of Mason’s hard work and exemplary behavior. He is bound to go far in life!
Maddison Breckel - 7th grade nominated by MMS Staff
Maddi comes to class each day prepared and ready to learn. She promptly takes out her notebook and pencil and listens attentively to instructions. Her consistent focus and positive attitude set a great example for her peers.
Teachers can always count on Maddi to do the right thing. She is respectful, courteous, and kind to both staff and classmates. During classwork, she uses her time wisely, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to ask for help when needed.
This month, all of Maddi’s teachers recommended her for recognition. In addition to her academic strengths, she serves as a teaching assistant at the elementary school, where she is a helpful, reliable presence and a great role model for younger students. - Carrisa Childs
Forrest Yarbrough - 9th grade nominated by MHS Staff
Forrest is always the first to step up—whether it’s volunteering for tasks or contributing to class discussions with thoughtful, relevant questions that elevate the conversation. As a dedicated student-athlete, he manages a demanding schedule with responsibility and consistently stays caught up on assignments and class content, even when he has to miss time.
In the three years I’ve had the pleasure of working with Forrest, I’ve never once had to redirect him. He exemplifies what it means to be a model student—always engaged, respectful, and prepared. He turns in all assignments on time, actively participates in class, and asks insightful clarifying questions when needed.
Forrest has performed at an ESPY-worthy level all year long, setting the standard for his peers and demonstrating exceptional character and commitment. He is truly deserving of this recognition. -Jason Milstead
