MAY ESPY

Marcola School District Board Members want to recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.

ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers.  They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.

The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting.  Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.

May 2025 ESPY Winners are;

Hazel Brylski - 2nd grade nominated by Selene Konyn

Hazel Brylski is more than deserving of this esteemed award. Hazel comes to school every day with a ready to learn, positive attitude. She follows classroom rules and expectations every minute of every day. Not only is she an outstanding, responsible, and scholarly Mustang, but she is also a kind, caring, and cooperative friend.

Hazel goes out of her way to make sure that everyone has what they need. Somehow, she can observe, assess, and fix any issue a classmate has. If a friend is sad, she immediately goes to their side and asks them what's wrong. If a friend is upset, she tells them a joke. If a friend needs a pencil, she gets up and gets one without being asked. Hazel does the right and kind thing even when she thinks no one is watching.

Congratulations Hazel, keep on being the amazing human that you are.

Hoyt Johnson - 6th grade nominated by MMS Staff

Hoyt consistently demonstrates responsibility and leadership in the classroom. He comes prepared every day with a charged Chromebook and a writing utensil, ready to engage in learning. He completes his homework on time, which allows him to actively and meaningfully participate in class discussions.

A natural leader, Hoyt sets a positive example for his peers by working quietly, raising his hand to ask thoughtful questions, and encouraging others to stay on task. He is often the first to volunteer answers. He always brings insightful contributions to our discussions, especially during language arts, bringing new ideas to the table when it comes to interpreting literature.

Hoyt also takes initiative beyond academics. His presence elevates our classroom environment. He keeps his workspace clean, helps tidy up shared areas, and holds his classmates accountable in a respectful manner.

Hoyt is truly a role model, and our class is better because of his positive attitude, strong work ethic, and leadership. - Madi Murphy

Caleb Ogg - 11th grade nominated by MHS Staff

Caleb arrives to class each day ready to learn. He promptly begins his warm-up and is always prepared with an answer when our discussions begin. His focus and consistency are remarkable—I've never once had to redirect him, and that truly says something about his character and work ethic.

This year, Caleb has turned in 100% of his assignments, all while balancing a full schedule that includes FFA, sports, and early-morning workouts, often starting his day as early as 6 A.M. Even as the year winds down and many students begin to coast, Caleb continues to give his best, pushing forward with determination and drive.

He is building habits that will not only lead to an epic senior year, but will also carry him far beyond high school. Caleb is a standout student, and it’s clear he’s preparing himself for success in whatever path he chooses next. -Jason Milstead

These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
