espy march

Marcola School District Board Members want to recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.

ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers.  They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.

The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting.  Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.

March 2026 ESPY Winners are;

Bodie Yokum - Ist grade, nominated by Fallon Woodruff

Bodie is an outstanding first grader who demonstrates safe, respectful, and responsible behavior everyday. He is exceptionally kind and caring to both his peers and adults. I can always rely on Bodie to make good choices, even when it is hard. He is an excellent student who puts his best effort into everything he does.

I look forward to seeing how Bodie will grow during his years in the Marcola School District. His sense of leadership, kindness, and honesty will take him far in life beyond school. It is an honor to know him and be a part of his educational journey.

Grayson Turpin - 6th grade, nominated by MMS Staff

Gracie is the model of consistency; she arrives every day organized, focused, and ready to learn the moment the bell rings. Beyond her own academic success, she brings a wonderful energy to our classroom. She is consistently kind and helpful to her peers, always maintaining a positive attitude and following expectations with ease.

Her work ethic is equally impressive. Gracie not only submits her assignments on time but also completes them with remarkable thoroughness. Whether she is offering a thoughtful answer to a difficult question or engaging her classmates in a group discussion, her participation makes our school a better place to learn. Congratulations, Gracie, on this well-deserved honor. - Maddy Rowell

Rylan Pritchard - 7th grade, nominated by MMS Staff

As one of the first to arrive each day, Rylan doesn’t just wait for the bell; she takes initiative, getting straight to work and staying focused on her goals. Her academic discipline is truly impressive—she is a meticulous note-taker who consistently turns in her work early, always pushing herself to transform standard assignments into exceptional projects.

But what truly sets Rylan apart is her character. She is a quiet leader who leads by example, showing kindness and respect to everyone around her. By remaining focused and never distracting others, she protects the learning environment for her peers. Rylan is a truly exceptional student, and her positive attitude is a big part of what makes Mohawk such a great place to learn. - Rob Jerome

Jordyn Layman - 11th grade, nominated by MHS Staff

Jordyn has shown tremendous academic growth, working with his teachers and case managers to build skills that bolster his success across all academic areas. His determination and work ethic have been key for him as he progresses towards his senior year. Jordyn is respectful to his teachers and fellow students and demonstrates the classroom habits of someone focused on achieving their goals.

Jordyn is also a very successful athlete, lettering in varsity basketball, another area where he works extremely hard. Jordyn is an excellent teammate and demonstrates the same work ethic and determination on the court that has become part of his identity as a student athlete.

In the hallways, Jordyn is a quiet, positive leader. He is kind and welcoming to all students and is not afraid to step up and confront inappropriate behavior or bullying if he sees it. Staff know that they can count on Jordyn to act with integrity and show courage in challenging situations. Jordyn is honest, even in difficult circumstances, and is a great example of what we want from our students when it comes to peer interactions.

The Mohawk staff has watched Jordyn grow tremendously during his time at Mohawk, and are delighted to recognize him as the ESPY winner this month. -Rex Hoffman

These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
