Marcola School District Board Members want to recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.

ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers.  They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.

The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting.  Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.

May 2026 Elementary ESPY Winner

Adalynn and Emelia Payne -  Kindergarten, nominated by Jen Krebs

"Addy and Emmy are BOTH so deserving of this award that I could not just pick one!

Addy and Emmy are role models both academically and socially. Every day I am consistently impressed with the pride they take in their classwork. They listen respectfully during every lesson and use their class time wisely to produce high quality work. As a result of their hard work and attention during instruction, Addy and Emmy are both above grade level in all academic areas.

Socially, Addy and Emmy are kind friends to all. They treat others fairly and do their best to always do what is right. They wait patiently for their turn and consider others above themselves.

In addition, I appreciate the way Addy and Emmy consistently keep a positive, helpful attitude. I can count on them to help a friend who is struggling or to tidy up the classroom, even if it isn't their mess. They never complain and are always polite. Thank you girls for being such shining lights in our school!"

Peyton Reese and Kaydence DeVault - 7th grade, nominated by MMS Staff

Peyton consistently comes to class prepared and ready to learn. She demonstrates strong leadership qualities through her positive attitude, willingness to step up when needed, and exemplary behavior. Peyton approaches her work thoughtfully and thoroughly, always putting forth her best effort and maintaining an excellent work ethic.

Beyond her academic accomplishments, Peyton is a positive influence on those around her. She is motivated, kind, and supportive of her peers, making her a great friend and an outstanding role model. Peyton's character, dedication, and leadership make her a valuable member of our school community. — Maddy Rowell

Kaydence consistently arrives to class on time, prepared, and ready to learn. She remains focused on her work, demonstrates excellent behavior, and serves as a natural leader and exemplary Mustang.

Her strong work ethic is evident in everything she does, and she is often among the first students to complete and submit high-quality work. While Kaydence has been an exceptional student throughout the year, she went above and beyond this past month through her dedicated work on the MMS yearbook. Her commitment, responsibility, and willingness to contribute have made a lasting impact.

Kaydence consistently goes the extra mile to help make Mohawk Middle School a positive and successful place to learn, and she is a wonderful role model for her peers. — Rob Jerome

Amelia Mars - 9th grade, nominated by MHS Staff

The Mohawk staff has nominated Amelia Mars as the winner of the May ESPY award. Over the course of this school year, staff has been extremely impressed with Amelia’s focus as a student in the classroom, athlete on the court and on the field, and as a citizen in the hallways.

Amelia works hard in the classroom, and sets a high standard for herself and peers. She is willing to take on challenging work, and can be trusted to work independently. This is reflected in her 4.0 GPA this year, while accessing advanced, 10th grade material. She can also be relied on to treat peers and staff, as well as her environment, with respect.

Amelia is a great teammate and community member. She treats everyone with respect, and has participated in sports simply to make sure the opportunity was afforded to others. Although she is not passionate about all sports, she is always someone coaches and teammates can rely on to work hard, stay committed, and compete. In the hallways, Amelia would never tolerate bullying of any kind, and has displayed the courage to say something to anyone that was acting inappropriately.

Amelia has always been a leader, with strong leadership ability. It has been an honor to watch her develop that this year, and make a positive impact on our school.

These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
