Cougar Sighting
This morning (before school started), a cougar was spotted near homes on Howard Road.
We have reviewed our safety procedures in case there is a daytime sighting near the school. ODFW encourages people who see a cougar to contact the Oregon State Police at 541 726 2536.
Your child’s safety and well-being is of the utmost concern to our staff. Below is some information we obtained from ODFW. One particular area of concern includes students that come by the school after hours, especially in the evening. Our goal is to provide the best information available to you. We encourage you to share the information with your child. Please feel free to contact our staff should you have any additional questions or concerns.
If you see a cougar in your yard or neighborhood:
If you see a cougar in your yard or in town, especially during the daytime, call your local ODFW office or 911.
A cougar is displaying dangerous behavior* when it’s:
*Behaviors are defined in Oregon statute 498.166.
Seen repeatedly during daylight hours near homes or other permanent structures.
Charging, false charging, growling, teeth popping, snarling or stalking.
Attacking pets or domestic animals.
ODFW may work with local law enforcement or other partners to monitor the situation and/or try to remove the cougar.
To avoid attracting cougars to your home and yard:
Keep pets and livestock inside, especially at night.
Don’t feed other wildlife near you home.
Feed your pets inside.

12/12- MMS PTO can drive: We will be accepting cans in any container, next Thursday from 3PM to 4:30 PM. Look for the signs, we will be at the Farm collecting these!
Volunteers Needed: Mohawk Middle School home basketball games, 1 hour time slots, please contact teck@marcola.k12.or.us to sign up!
