The TNW theater department is excited to announce that we will be presenting
Disney’s The Lion King, Jr. this spring as an all-school musical. There will be
seven performances on May 17th, 18th, and 19th (matinee), as well as May 23rd (matinee),
24th, and 25th.
Auditions for the musical will take place in the TNW theater (LCC building 17 at
the top).
All parts of the musical will be cast, and materials will be sent home before winter break.
Rehearsals will begin in January during theater time, which is Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 3:00 - 5:00. This time will increase to a daily rehearsal
(Monday - Thursday), and will run to 6:00 or 6:30 as we get into our tech
weeks (3 weeks prior to the opening show) and dress rehearsal week (one week
before the opening show).
All students interested in auditioning are encouraged to audition. There are parts
available for students of all ability levels, including parts with a large amount of
solo singing and speaking, as well as parts with only ensemble singing and no
speaking lines. All parts are important to the success of the production!
If you are interested in an ensemble (no solo singing & no speaking roles) please
come to auditions, too! We want to hear your voice and how it blends with
others.
Not confident in your singing or dancing ability? That’s okay! Come anyway
- we want you! There is a part for everyone in this show!
If you are interested in a lead role, here are the songs you need to prepare for
auditions (Just an excerpt from the song - like the chorus). If you want to hear
YouTube search for Lion King Jr. Soundtrack. >span class="s1">Listen
carefully, as the music is not identical to the film version. The whole soundtrack is
BEAUTIFUL!
- Young Simba - “I Just Can’t Wait to be King”
- Simba - “Can You Feel the Love”
- Mufasa - “They Live in You”
- Scar - “Be Prepared”
- Rafiki - “The Circle of Life”
- Timon - “Hakuna Matata”
- Pumba - “Hakuna Matata”
- Nala - “Can You Feel the Love”
- Lead hyenas - “Be Prepared”
Actors can audition for multiple lead roles, and we are not casting along gender
lines, but we will be casting along size lines. (Example: Young Simba cannot be
bigger than Mufasa).
Zazu is a non-singing role and will need to be played by a stronger comedic actor.
Ensemble singers won’t have solos but will sing in the songs and play other
characters like Simba’s and Nala’s mothers, hyenas, etc.
All actors should also prepare another simple song, like “Twinkle, Twinkle Little
Star”. The vocal coach would also like to hear “The Star Spangled Banner” just to
be able to gauge range.
For those not already in our theater program, please prepare a short monologue so
we can see/hear your acting. If you are already in the theater, I have seen your
acting!
There will be a digital version of the music available for those who are interested.
Please respond with the form to let us know you are interested! It’s not too late to
join the TNW theater program!
We would also like to recruit high school students interested in being a part of the
theater crew (props, costumes, sets, etc.) We need you!
This is going to be so beautiful and so much fun!
If you are interested in auditioning,
please fill out this form
by Monday, December 11.
I will send out links to the music as I receive your email addresses.
